World Of Final Fantasy Release Date Confirmed!

Wow, Square Enix is really on a roll. Having just announced the Final Fantasy XII remake, they have now announced the release date for World Of Final Fantasy.

This game will bring together characters from different installments of the Final Fantasy franchise for one big epic adventure. In this game, the player will be in control of the twins Lann and Reyne throughout their journey in the world of Grimoire. While every other character will be presented in "Chibi" style, Lann and Reyne will be able to shift between "Chibi" and actual human forms. We've also seen multiple characters from previous Final Fantasy titles in the recently released trailer, including Tidus (FF10), Squall (FF8), Lighting (FF13) and the fan-favourite Cloud (FF7).

WORLD OF FINAL FANTASY - E3 2016 Trailer | PS4, PS Vita (by. PlayStation)

World Of Final Fantasy will be released for PS4 and PS Vita on October 25th 2016. I'll still have to wait for slightly under 5 months before I can get my hands on it but this is an adventure that I will surely be taking on. The fact that It's going to be released less than a month after Final Fantasy XV doesn't bother me in the least. Thank you, Square Enix for giving me multiple new adventures to look forward to!

Final Fantasy XII Remaster Confirmed!

Final Fantasy XII on PS2 has been my absolute favourite game since I first played it almost 10 years ago. I have never felt so much love for a game as I did for Final Fantasy 12. I spent upwards of 300 hours playing it (..and that was just my main save file.) and now I can look forward to playing it all over again in HD. A remastered version of Final Fantasy XII has been confirmed and will be coming to PS4 in 2017.

The remaster will be based on the Final Fantasy XII International Zodiac Job System. The game will reportedly have improved character models and cutscenes. The original game looked amazing on PS2, pushing the system to it's limits at the time. I'm very excited to see how good it will look in HD on the PS4. I await the day I set off on my adventure to take on the Judges once more.

If anyone has never played Final Fantasy 12, please look into it. It's one of the more underrated titles in the main-line Final Fantasy lineup but as the saying goes, don't judge a book by it's cover, or in this case, don't judge my favourite game by things reviewers say!

I've been waiting such a long time for this.
I will soon be able to return to Ivalice.
Thank You, Square Enix.

Attack On Titan On PS4! More Anime Games In The Future?

I have been an anime fan for quite a while and have enjoyed anime-based games on multiple generations of consoles. These games have always provided an extension of the anime, one which I could take control of and muck about in. I could walk around Konoha Village or shoot Zeon forces right in their mono-eyed faces or create a one-on-one fight between Broly and Chiaotzu (..and make chiaotzu win) or whatever else I felt like doing.

We've already had a few anime-based games come out for the PS4. Well-known anime such as Dragonball, One Piece, Naruto and Gundam have all had games released on the current gen system. All of the anime-based games released so far have been very well developed and are a tasteful representation of the anime they were based on. I have personally played the Naruto Ultimate Ninja series multiple times each since the PS2 days. I've also played the One Piece Pirate Warriors series and found it incredibly enjoyable. Dragonball Xenoverse on PS4 completely shattered my expectations and turned out to be the best Dragonball game I had ever experienced. However, all of these titles have had predecessors on last gen consoles. Hopefully, this newcomer to the anime-based game lineup will have the same amount of quality.

Attack On Titan is a fairly recent anime in which humans live in large cities surrounded by towering walls to keep themselves safe from the Titans which are an ugly lot of giant humanoid abominations, some with faces so creepy I can't even.... Well, you get the gist of it. This anime has already gotten it's first game on PS4. Attack On Titan was released in Japan earlier this year and will be available to the rest of the world this August.

This begs the question, will there be more anime-based game franchises in the future? Personally, I would be ecstatic if more anime were given their own games on PS4. Just imagine games based on Ao no Exorcist (The Blue Exorcist), FairyTail, One Punch Man, Trigun or even SKET-dance. So many anime have such great potential to be made into games! It get's me excited just thinking about the possibility! With the release of Attack On Titan, it may be less of an implausible dream than I once thought. I'm well aware that not everybody would share or even agree with my yearning for anime-based open world RPGs but I'll keep hoping that somewhere out there, there's a game developer who shares my passion and intends to make it a reality.

Thank You, Blizzard! Overwatch Remains Fair

Blizzard Entertainment have kept their promise of keeping Overwatch free of cheaters! The online multiplayer first-person shooter promises to do what similar games haven't been able to, which is to punish cheating and ensure the game stays as fair as possible. Players who are caught gaining an unfair advantage by means of any third party software have been banned from the game. As of right now, there have been thousands of players permanently banned on their first offence. Blizzard will continue to ban any and all cheaters in order to keep Overwatch a fair playing field. Blizzard also encourages players to report suspected cheaters using the in-game report function. I applaud Blizzard Entertainment for this strict implementation of punishment. Let's hope other companies follow suit!

5 Weird But Lovely PlayStation Exclusives

The PlayStation has a very large library of exclusive titles. Most are very enjoyable and are well known for being exemplary titles in their respective genres. However, there are some PlayStation exclusives that don't really fit into any genre whatsoever. I know that there are more than 5 such examples, but for now I've chosen to highlight the following titles.

1. Flower

This is a type of game that we rarely ever see. Flower let's players control the flow of wind to pick up flower petals in order to bring colour back into a grey world. The game utilizes the PlayStation controller's sixaxis functionality by letting players control the direction of the breeze by tilting the controller. This, coupled with the game's beautiful visuals and captivating soundtrack, make for a indescribably calming and enjoyable experience.

2. Puppeteer

I have never seen any other game presented this way before. This game puts players in control of Kutaro, a puppet with a missing head. The entire game is played as if it's a play being acted out in front of an unseen audience. You'll be able to hear the audience react appropriately according to the unfolding events in the game. Throughout the adventure, Kutaro will find and put on a number of different heads, each one granting him a special power. The main tool used by Kutaro throughout the game is a magical pair of scissors called "Calibrus" which acts as a means of travelling around levels as well as attacking enemies which adds to the basic platforming and puzzle solving. This is, in my opinion, one of, if not the most charming title released on PlayStation to date.

3. Journey

Journey is a truly unique experience. It's another title by "That Game Company", the one's who gave us Flower. This game has just one objective, get to the shining light on top of that tall mountain. You take control of a cloaked being as you travel towards your destination. On your way, you will be accompanied by breathtaking visuals, a beautiful soundtrack and, if you so choose, a companion in the form of a fellow traveler. "That Game Company" seems to have a knack for developing games that can't properly be described but need to be experienced.

4. Afrika

This game allows players to experience what it would be like to work as a photojournalist. You will receive assignments and requests to take pictures of various wildlife. Take good pictures, earn good money. However, that isn't as easy as it seems. Wildlife in this game is just that, wild. They aren't going to sit around waiting for you and pose for your picture. You will have to spend some time tracking them down and then wait for them to do something worth taking a picture of. Some animals are likely to run away if you get too close to them while some are more aggressive than which means they might attack, forcing you back to base. There hasn't been any other game like this on PlayStation since it was released back in 2008. It has become quite a rare gem, but if you're lucky enough to find a copy, do pick it up. Afrika truly is a game worth experiencing.

5. Kung Fu Rider

Everyone who has ever played this game pretty much agrees that it's a reeeaaly bad game. It was one of the launch titles for the PlayStation Move hardware. In this game, players take control of either one of two characters as they race downhill on an office chair of some sort while avoiding obstacles and performing kung fu kicks on the mafia agents pursuing them. This is why I just had to include it in the list. It's such a stupidly odd concept! I can't fathom what was going through their minds when they were developing this game. They must have all been drunk or something! It's a funny thing to watch, sure, but the controls are amazingly awful which makes this game pretty much unplayable. It could have been quite a fun little game if only it utilized conventional controls. Unlike all the other games on this list, stay away from this one.

Offline Single-player Games A Dying Breed?

We've recently seen a significant increase in the number of online multiplayer games. Within the last few years the online multiplayer market has grown at an astounding rate.  More and more companies are developing games to cater to this growing market. In the pursuit of greater online offerings, some developers have decreased the quality of their offline single-player mode. Some have gotten rid of the offline mode altogether. While some have even thrown sense out the window by making a constant online connection a requirement to play the single player story mode.

While I understand the appeal for good online multiplayer games, there is also a definite need for really good games that don't need a constant internet connection to be enjoyed. I would prefer that my enjoyment not depend on the fragile connection between my console and the game's servers via the internet. Sadly not many companies are making the offline mode a priority anymore. Even companies which have been well known for making great single player games in the past are now focusing more on online multiplayer only titles.

Recently, it seems like every new game I hear about is another online multiplayer. I might be part of the minority but I really appreciate a good offline single-player experience. An online multiplayer game is great fun but I really love games that get me to connect with the characters, to care about them. I love to experience an elaborate story being played out with me in the center of it all. No other players for me to ally with or compete against. Just me.. me.. ME all the way until the very end. Games like these are getting rarer nowadays.

Thankfully, we still have a few offline single-player games to look forward to for now. I hope that there will always be a strong offline gaming market. I hope that developers still appreciate the art form that is an offline single-player experience. I would be saddened beyond belief if at one point all games required online connectivity. If that does happen, I'll be happy to just play the offline games I've stockpiled throughout the years.

Unexpected Goodness : Little Big Planet

"That kids game?", you might be thinking. Well, let me explain. Little Big Planet is a PlayStation exclusive developed by Media Molecule released back in 2009. At a glance, the game looks like a 2D platformer with cutesy, colourful visuals. Well, it is, but it's also so much more. The story mode puts players in control of Sackboy as he fumbles along his adventure. Along the way, players will do all the regular platformy things you would expect. Flip some switches, jump over fire pits, avoid moving obstacles, climb things and whatever else a platformer usually has you do. However, all of that is just the tippy top of the iceberg for Little Big Planet.

Even though the visuals make it seem like a game only kids would enjoy, that's not the case at all. While this game isn't the bloody, gory, bullet-filled action extravaganza that has become the trend in recent years, it is immensely fun no matter if you're 8 or 80! This game allows players to create their own levels based on literally whatever. Want to create a level with dinosaurs in it? Sure! Go on! Want to race speedboats while a massive shark chases after you? No problem! Want to make a survival horror level with ghouls and zombies? No reason not to! It's absolutely brilliant.

This game also allows users to play together on the same console, something that has been missing in a lot of games this generation. Players can also chose to play with others online. Speaking of online, this game's online community is unlike any other. There are hundreds of thousands of levels created by players from all around the world. Some of the levels that have been created are beyond the imagination of the average person. They truly are stunning. All these user created levels are available for you to play whenever you fell like it.

This game is truly a gem. It's unique concept and gameplay mechanics make it an absolutely joyous experience. It has since spawned a number of sequels on multiple consoles. Little Big Planet 2 and 3 have pushed the envelope even further. Making even more creative tools available to the players, hence expanding on what was already possible before.

Please don't dismiss this series purely because of it's visual style. While playing more mature looking titles may make you feel like a "badass", Little Big Planet calms you down and allows you to experience a different side of gaming. So, if you haven't already, give Little Big Planet a try.
